Charmes-Chambertin
Grand Cru
DESCRIPTION:
- The Grand Cru vineyard of Charmes is located below Chambertin, next to Griotte-Chambertin.
- One of the most interesting spots to view vineyards in Burgundy is just on the borderline between Morey-Saint-Denis and Gevrey-Chambertin.
- Looking north towards Gevrey-Chambertin, there lies a majestic sea of vines with Chambertin in the center.
- The soil consists of outcroppings of limestone with thin topsoil; rocky soil with some marl.
GRAPE VARIETY: 100% Pinot Noir
FOOD PAIRINGS: This is a grand wine which deserves the best accompaniment: prime meat, morels, truffles, wild hare, aged cheeses. Charmes-Chambertin is a rare and generous wine for the greatest occasions.
TASTING NOTES: “A generous and distinctive wine, often superb. The color is intense and bright. On the nose, the first impression that arises is that of cherry. Then, woody and fine spicy aromas appear, with an elegant hint of musk in some vintages. The flavors are extraordinary in their richness and harmony, neither too rough nor too heavy. The architecture of the wine is held up by fine and noble tannins, giving the body a silky texture (called “gras”). Acidity brings energy and liveliness to the whole. The aftertaste is a pure delight”.- Véronique Boss-Drouhin
