2019 Vintage:
Plentiful winter rainfall heralded an early start to the 2019 growing season for the Zinfandel blocks. Despite early budbreak, bloom and veraison, moderate weather in the summer and early fall led to normal timing for the Zinfandel to fully ripen at the end of September. Both the newer trellised blocks and the older head-trained, dry-farmed blocks on the back of the estate reached optimal ripeness on September 28th, which we now refer to as “Zinfandel Saturday.” The remaining few blocks close to the Chateau were harvested a few days later on October 1st. Very gradual final ripening during the extended period between veraison and harvest explains the superb condition and classic Zinfandel flavors of the harvested fruit.
Winemaker’s Tasting Notes:
The 2019 Inglenook Edizione Pennino Zinfandel is dark ruby red in color, with a purple edge. The nose is very focused, showing ample ripe fruit aromas of plum, clove, and ultra-ripe blueberry and blackberry. The wine is sweet, plush, and generous in the mouth, with very round, velvety tannins that create a sense of warmth and balance on the finish.
