Description

Domaine de la Solitude
Châteauneuf-du-Pape
“Cuvée Barberini” Rouge

Cuvée Barberini Red – It is a tribute to our ancestors the Barberini Family, produced when the vintage allows it from a special selection from our domaine, well known for its concentration and its opulence. The modern winemaking style, with optimization of the extraction but without excess, gives a powerful wine with silky tannins. Depending on the vintage, a part more or less is aged 16 months in barrels, and then when the blending is made, is going to spend 6 months in tanks for a perfect integration. Impressive wine, with a significant purity and density, can best be served for tasting between 4 and 15 years at least after the vintage year.

Blend: (2020 Vintage)

The grenaches come from old vines planted on the high Quaternary alluvial terraces surrounding the estate. These famous soils of pebbles of quartzites and clays, they give the Cuvée Barberini a great tannic and aromatic power.

    • 65% Grenache noir
    • 20% Mourvèdre
    • 15% Syrah

Vineyards:

  • Yield: 30 hl/ha
  • Agricultural: Sustainable

Winemaking and aging:

    • Harvesting is done by hand in 25 kg crates.
    • After a double selection of the best bunches in the vineyard then on a sorting table, the grapes are crushed and partially destemmed.
    • They are vinified by gravity in concrete vats.
    • Long macerations with gentle extractions provide these tannins both powerful and velvetines.
    • This vintage is aged for 65% in barrels and half barrels for 20 months and 40% in concrete vats.
    • The wine is bottled without filtration or fining.

Food and wine pairing:

    • This wine still in its youth is best with red meat like a beautiful rib of beef but also, for instance, an apricot tagine of lamb, duck breast with cherries, then after about ten years a hare “à la royale”

Tasting Note:

    • A powerful nose, which mixes aromas of tobacco, violet, milk caramel.
    • A velvety mouth with aromas of licorice and morello cherry, with a lingering chocolate finish.

    • To be consumed within 3 to 20 years after the vintage.
